I will need to trim the pivot tube for length and drill a hole for a cotter pin.

Dug up the flap cable steel “triangle” that connects the flap handle cable to the wing flap cables. I setup the triangle on the drill press and enlarged the holes to AN3. After misunderstanding what the correct assembly looks like, I assembled one AN115 cable shackle and a pair of turnbuckles with shackles. Over all it took 4 different iterations to get everything setup correctly. I am going to install so that castlenuts and cotter pins are facing forward so inspection is easy.


Comfirmed with Virgil that they use AN833-3 90 degree bulhead connections on the gear leg for softline caliper to gear leg attachment. Mistakenly ordere a pair of surplus AN833-2 fittings off ebay because they were so cheap. These things are foing to be tiny. Designed for 1/8 OD tube. Dumb mistake. Have put in order with Spruce for correct fittings along with sleeves and nuts.


Started work about 8am and made it rill noon. Garage fot up to 90 degree.

]]><![CDATA[GoPro Surface mount idea]]>Not and advertisement, just doing some research on elegant ways to mount external GoPro cameras on the wings. This system could be easily added to wing structure before it gets buttoned up. It would allow easy attach and detach from airframe with little to no external visual indication of mounts.

Should also run camera power to the location. I haven't figured out a good solution for power that includes weather proofing.

The carbide cutter head shattered when it hit the floor. Ordered pair of replacements from cleveland tools for $10 each plus $5

New shop pedestal fan works great to keep garage bearable when its 90+ degrees outside.

Received a giant crate from Lycoming today. Some quick work with a couple of furniture dollies and I had it secreted off to its hiding place until I'm ready for it.

Order and YIO-390 EXP410 with a pair of E-Mags as suggested by Virgil of Bearhawk. This is the 210 HP, 389 cu. inch, 8.9:1 compression motor. When he built his Five, he opted for EFII fuel injection and ignition. While he is very happy with that install, he suggested keeping things simple by going with standard mechanical Fuel Injection and E-Mags. Engine is not electrically dependent, so that is an advantage.
