Care package from Lycoming

Received a giant crate from Lycoming today. Some quick work with a couple of furniture dollies and I had it secreted off to its hiding place until I'm ready for it.

Order and YIO-390 EXP410 with a pair of E-Mags as suggested by Virgil of Bearhawk. This is the 210 HP, 389 cu. inch, 8.9:1 compression motor. When he built his Five, he opted for EFII fuel injection and ignition. While he is very happy with that install, he suggested keeping things simple by going with standard mechanical Fuel Injection and E-Mags. Engine is not electrically dependent, so that is an advantage.

Flight controls and brake fittings

Decided that I need to work out all my control cable runs and other things that are fixed before I start finalizing things like floor boards and working on avionics trays etc. Re-installed the sticks and started trial fitting the control horn. I will need to trim the pivot tube

GoPro Surface mount idea

Not and advertisement, just doing some research on elegant ways to mount external GoPro cameras on the wings. This system could be easily added to wing structure before it gets buttoned up. It would allow easy attach and detach from airframe with little to no external visual indication of mounts.

Rear cargo floors and broken tools

Spent some time fitting the rear floor board 0.025 2024. Slowly trimming to fit. Was using edge debur tool and let it roll off my work bench. The carbide cutter head shattered when it hit the floor. Ordered pair of replacements from cleveland tools for $10 each plus $5

Bearhawk Delivery Day

January 10, 2025. Took delivery of my Bearhawk Companion quick build kit. Lots of parts. Lots of really big parts. Wings shipped in steel crates, very well protected.
